Camp Staff Life

Getting the "you're hired" phone call.

Trying to convince your broke friends to work at camp, too.

Right before campers arrive.

The first day of campers.

It's five minutes before the staff morning meeting, and your alarm just went off.

And then you get to the morning meeting and no one's had their coffee yet.

When a camper FINALLY understands how to do something.

When no one laughs at your knock-knock jokes...

When you help a homesick camper feel better.

Creative substitutions for swear words.

When a camper says, "I'm bored."

Coming up with a new game to use up extra time.
When you come up with a new activity

When a camper asks "why" for the eighth time.

Camper skits.

Finding a lost camper.

Teaching campers the cup game.

Be prepared to give instructions at least three times.

When campers ask inappropriate questions like, "Are you guys dating?!"
image

When campers ask crazy "what if" scenarios, and you can always answer them perfectly.

When campers get to choose the song. It's always the same one.
image

When we get to wear costumes.

When you forget your flashlight and have to stumble around in the dark.

Have I showered this week?

When campers ask if you really do live in a bunker under the flagpole. True story.

When a staffer asks if you want to go for a morning run.

Camp laundry.

There are things you can say to other staff at camp that would just be weird in the real world.
image

The fine art of making stuff up on the fly.
image

And somehow it always works out flawlessly.

End-of-session staff meetings right before time off.
image

Right before you run to your cabin to hibernate.

Going back to the real world after a summer at camp.

That'll be all for now.
